What lightning does to a tree

Some friends of mine came across this tree that had been struck by lightning, I thought this looked kinda cool, so I thought I'd share it. Anyway the picture was taken near the small town of Culgoa, Victoria, Australia. You can see that the lightning really did a number on the tree, note the hole in the ground around the base of the tree.
